“It Tells a Story”

A while back, I took this photo of David’s parents (my future in-laws!) as they walked toward the pool in the summer. It was sunset, and they were holding hands and looking so sweet… I couldn’t resist. Later, David asked what to give them for their 51st wedding anniversary. I thought of this photo, and David worked for hours to build a beautiful frame for it. Upon receiving it, my future father-in-law said, “It tells a story.” I am so happy they liked it!

Summer’s End

It’s been a long time since my last post, and it’s been a busy summer. After Christi’s shower, I hurt my back, so I haven’t been doing much. I moved houses; I now live with David and our four cats (!). By moving day, I was in pain and not much help, but luckily David helped every step of the way. What would I do without him!

Between that, planning the wedding, and starting a new school year with my students, nothing’s happened except the occasional photograph. Here are a few favorites:

And getting splashed…

Splash!

I did a lot of packing, and we decided to keep my dishes.

Plate

I gave some things to my little cousin Lanette, who has a new apartment.

Then, it was David’s birthday. His sister sent him a bouquet… of fruit! I’ve always been skeptical of these things, but it was pretty good.

I gave him a wallet.

New Wallet (and chocolate bar)

It replaced his old one.

New & Old

My cat had trouble adjusting to the move (she’s all right now).

We got our first engagement present! It’s beautifully wrapped.

First Engagement Present

It’s been a quiet and busy summer. I believe we’re caught up now!

The Baby is Growing…

Well, little baby Julia turned one year old last month! She is SO cute! She’s turning out to be an inquisitive little girl. I was so happy to visit her & her mom a while back. It turns out, Julia likes the camera and wants to crawl towards it!

Family!

David & I went to visit relatives and give him a chance to meet my family! I am way late posting these, but here they are. We also visited the beach, which is very contemplative and quieter and has a different vibe. Anyway, here are the pictures!

This is my super-cute (and quite a handful!) nephew. He’s 5 years old and loves to tell you about it!

And now for some pictures of the beach! Despite David’s contemplative look, we actually laughed a lot on this trip!

Here I am, always with the camera (and I love the sparkly reflection)!

And my favorite, the aquarium! The jellyfish were easy to photograph.

An endless horizon. It’s often cloudy in this part of the state, and David captures it perfectly in this shot. Would you believe, it looks almost exactly the same in color as it does in black & white!

Julia’s Christening

Eri’s little daughter Julia was christened in a beautiful ceremony this week, and I brought my new lens (a Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D) to help commemorate the occasion.

I say this all the time, but Eri is really a lovely new mom!

Poor Julia cried during the entire christening!

Michael tries to comfort her:

This little one was the only baby in attendance (out of 5) who didn’t cry! She just paid rapt attention:

Introducing… Baby Handsock!

My friend Eri’s little baby is the cutest! She wears socks on her hands to keep her from scratching her face, so during my visit this week I gave her a new nickname! Here are my favorite shots, more in the gallery.

She’s quiet, for now…

I have no idea what this creature is, but he sure is cute!

Eri is a great mom:

Baby Handsock has had enough of the cameras. She’s already a diva! Click to see more:

Jeta’s Portraits

Enough still-lifes; it’s definitely time to put some more people here on my blog! Here are some shots from a quick portrait session with my friend Jeta, who has a beautiful smile. We laugh a lot when we are together!

Jeta gestures as she tells me a story:

Jeta is a great teacher, but I’m sure her students don’t know about her hidden modeling talent…

And of course, Jeta’s beautiful smile! Click to see the rest of the portraits:

A New Book

A friend of mine lent me this cool new book. I haven’t read it yet–of course not! I wanted to take a picture of it first!

(Click to see it on amazon.com!)

Love in Cincinnati

My dear friend Ray is one of my favorite people in the world because he is so loving. I was visiting him & his family on vacation, but I’m happy I caught some great moments.

But first–I have to include a shot of their super-cute cat! This cat welcomed me by curling up to me and sleeping on my bed the first night I was there. So sweet!

Ray hugs his son before sending him off to camp…

And my favorite, from a quick portrait session for Ray & his wife.

Check out their portraits–I took all of them in just one minute. They are very expressive!

Ohio!

So after a grueling, 12 hours and 4000 miles of flying, I finally got to Cincinnati! (Don’t ask me why I had to fly 4000 miles just to get from California to Ohio–blame our current airline situation for that!)

So far, we went to Findlay Market. Such a HUGE contrast in prices between here and S.F.! Look at the price for this big tray of fresh vegetables:

And I couldn’t resist taking a shot of this poultry store… has it really been around since 1880?
