Fun with the 85mm f/1.4

I’ve mentioned this fabulous new lens once or twice on this blog, and I just love it. One of the things I love to do between portrait jobs is practice my photography on other, non-human subjects. My favorites are flowers! Yes! It’s spring again, and I made a pilgrimage to the Ft. Worth Gardens to see what’s growing this month. Enjoy!

And finally, this last one I took while thinking of David’s brother-in-law Leo, who passed away tragically just last week. (Leo was the father to the children featured in a previous post.) Apparently daffodils were symbolic to him and were featured prominently at his memorial service.

Turner Falls

This weekend I took a trip to Turner Falls, OK. It was really fun. The drive was relaxing and all the cheerful kids swimming in the lake were so joyful. It’s the first weekend of summer!

A view of Bridal Veil swimming hole. I’m not afraid of heights!

My beloved car on top of the hill, with storm clouds in the background.

At a rest stop, I just couldn’t resist these tiny flowers:

A windy tree and an interesting sky.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden

FWBG is one of my favorite places to go. It’s open to the public, and if you get there early enough, it’s totally quiet. I love going there and I always bring my camera, even if it’s going to rain. The colors of the flowers seem even brighter when it’s cloudy outside.

I didn’t do any processing on this one, but the wide open aperture and strange lines in the plants create a watercolor effect:

My favorite of the day. I have no idea what these flowers are…
