Married!

I have a good reason for not blogging sooner, and for the light shooting schedule — I got married! So today, I get to feature some photos other than my own.

My husband David and I were married one month ago today, and as I was writing some blog posts, I came across an email from our photographer, who has some preview photos up already! It’s great to remember what an incredibly joyous day this was for myself and my husband.

Here are some shots from the incomparable David Wittig (more preview images on his blog). Below that are two of my images from our wedding day. Later, I plan to post some shots from our honeymoon to Kaua’i.

We had a little portrait session where we pretended to shoot each other with our cameras. I, however, was not pretending. This is my husband and his new (old, 1955) Mamiya 6:

Mr. Wittig stepped in, and I got a quick shot of him as well. He’s the poor, overexposed soul behind this beautiful D3s. Sorry, David! I was… blinded by your brilliance? The camera looks great, though. ;)

Working with the Wittigs was a dream come true. Years ago, when I added their blog (and those of several other photographers) to my RSS, it was solely because I admired their work. I didn’t even know if I would get married. For months after our engagement, I ran around like a chicken looking for the photographers with the perfect style… and it was right there in my RSS the whole time! I’m so glad they were there to capture our day. It was an honor (and also super-fun).

Baby Kaito and Family

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph little six-week-old Kaito and his parents. I have several shots I love; it’s hard to pick my favorites!

Baby Kaito: Preview

Today I had the chance to meet little Kaito and his parents. The images will be done in a week or two, but in the meantime, I can’t resist showing him off!

He is especially handsome in his little blue outfit:

And here he is, smiling at his parents. What a charmer!

Crazy snow in Dallas!

I think this year that I’ve seen more snow than I have in my entire life. First we traveled to Chicago and had our engagement pictures done in the snow, and now we’ve had this snowstorm right here in Dallas! The news kept repeating that the weather surpassed some kind of record, and I believe it. Plus, we got a snow day! How wonderful was that! I managed to get a few shots of the snow.

Part of the wonder of a snowstorm (if you’ve never experienced one) is seeing things you recognize become transformed. Here is my little car, who has never seen so much snow!

How cute!

That is what I kept saying as I took pictures of little baby Yuta last weekend. Little Yuta and his family are so cute! I was so honored to take some photographs for them. Here are my favorites!

Ten Little Fingers…

Today I had the honor of photographing Baby Yuta and his parents. What an adorable little boy! The rest of these photos will be available by November 10th, but I couldn’t resist posting one this evening:

New Headshots

I was in desperate need of some new headshots (to put in different places, like this website), so I took some this afternoon. Our house has an interesting red wall, and I have a purple sweater, so it seemed like a perfect combination. There are definitely some outtakes in here, especially since I was singing along with the radio halfway through! Click here if you can’t view the slideshow.

This is for my mom, the Mary Kay consultant:

“It Tells a Story”

A while back, I took this photo of David’s parents (my future in-laws!) as they walked toward the pool in the summer. It was sunset, and they were holding hands and looking so sweet… I couldn’t resist. Later, David asked what to give them for their 51st wedding anniversary. I thought of this photo, and David worked for hours to build a beautiful frame for it. Upon receiving it, my future father-in-law said, “It tells a story.” I am so happy they liked it!

Summer’s End

It’s been a long time since my last post, and it’s been a busy summer. After Christi’s shower, I hurt my back, so I haven’t been doing much. I moved houses; I now live with David and our four cats (!). By moving day, I was in pain and not much help, but luckily David helped every step of the way. What would I do without him!

Between that, planning the wedding, and starting a new school year with my students, nothing’s happened except the occasional photograph. Here are a few favorites:

I did a lot of packing, and we decided to keep my dishes.

I gave some things to my little cousin Lanette, who has a new apartment.

Then, it was David’s birthday. His sister sent him a bouquet… of fruit! I’ve always been skeptical of these things, but it was pretty good.

It’s been a quiet and busy summer. I believe we’re caught up now!

Christi’s Baby Shower

My fiancé (who’s also my photographic assistant) asked me about the importance of baby showers. I was trying to convey to him how special these events are; how they commemorate the arrival of a baby, the sense of happy anticipation, the bonding between women & their unique shared experience.

All of these sentiments were in abundance at Christi’s baby shower last weekend. The event was held at Abuelo’s and was coordinated by Christi’s friend (and event planner) Tricia Brock. All the proofs are available here, but below are some highlights.

Thanks again for inviting me to photograph such a special event. Congratulations to Christi and her family!
